Recent inspection report:

This machine is a more modern A5 with both rings being bellows rings. Ring 1 has T arms 

where ring 2 has plate arms. Ring 2 needs a new infeed clamp ring. Both rings are in good 

condition with ring 1 at .015” axial clearance and ring 2 at .009”. Both rings are driven by 

100 hp motors running at 1185 RPM with a 10.9” sheave. Both rings have had the air seal 

repaired within the last 4 years. 

There are a couple of repairs needed on the feed rolls but overall, they are in good 

condition. The support arms are fitting with bearing housings, and all gears look good. The 

support arm pivots appear to have been adjusted in the past as there are cut outs behind 

the log tunnel, but the columns appear to be original. The bearing clearances are mostly 

good and as follows: 

#1 Upper 0”, #1 Lower 0”, #2 Upper 0”, #2 Lower 0”, #3 Upper .006”, #3 Lower 0”, #4 

Upper .001”, #4 Lower 0” 

The feed is driven by a 60 hp motor running at 1775 RPM with a 9.75” sheave to a gear 

reducer with a 13.2” sheave. The main frame of this machine is in good condition with no 

cracks being found anywhere on the frame or any of the columns. This machine is known 

to being in good operating condition.
